The Book Worm

The Bookworm opened in May 2001, with owners Kelly and Carl Rexroad. We were joined in September 2002 by Casper the Friendly Cat a 6-week-old kitten wandering aimlessly through the parking lot. Now, after 13 years in residence Casper is no doubt Southern Illinois' favorite store mascot.
After several years in our Eastgate Shopping Center location, we knocked down one of our existing walls and expanded into the space next door. (Don't worry, the previous tenants had already vacated the premises.)
The expansion allowed the Bookworm extra room to continue to expand our offering of used books and local books, as well as giving us an area to host book signings and other events with local authors. (And Casper got some extra room to stretch out, too!)
Today the Bookworm is the region's largest independent, locally owned new and used bookstore. We boast more than 100,000 titles in all genres of fiction and non-fiction, featuring books in all formats from mass market paperback, trade paperback, hardcover and audio books.
